Partner Spotlight - Tesoro

We support the replication efforts of our College Bound program at 14 other Boys & Girls Clubs in Los Angeles County. Thanks to Tesoro, the College Bound program at our Wilmington Club as well as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson will receive $100,000 collectively to expand.

Tesoro has been our partner since 2011. This most recent $100,000 grant to our collaborative College
Bound effort will assist in hiring additional case managers to serve more youth. The individual attention
is crucial in helping our youth graduate and accomplish their post high school plans.

In July, Tesoro Vice President of Refining and Marketing Dave Foster, Director of Public and Government Affairs Kenneth Dami, Manager of Government and Public Affairs Brissa Sotelo-Vargas, and Manager of Process Refining and BGCLAH Board member Michael DePasquale visited our Wilmington Club to announce the news to Club youth and donate ice cream to celebrate.

Partner Spotlight - ILWU

From union executives to workers, all ILWU members help in developing our community for the next generation.

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor has had a long standing partnership with the ILWU. Many union members who have grown up in the Harbor area attended our Club through the years and send their children to participate in enrichment programming in the same nurturing environment that they experienced. Together, our organizations work for a brighter future in the harbor area for our youth.

One such collaboration took place recently with the newest addition to our Club sites, Harry Bridges Span School in Wilmington with a very generous grant from the ILWU. We coordinate after school programming at 11 school sites in San Pedro, Wilmington and Lomita and we are proud to add one of the newest schools in the Heart of the Harbor to that list. Our free programs for youth at Harry Bridges Span School, including music education, cheer team, drill team and College Bound, are made possible thanks to the ILWU.

Partner Spotlight - Phillips 66

In 2007, when we first established our Corporate Giving Program, Phillips 66 – then known as ConocoPhillips – joined right away as a longstanding supporter.

One of our most generous, local patrons, Phillips 66 has been a major part of the expansion and improvement of our Clubs in San Pedro and Wilmington
. They also provided our Clubs with summer interns to expand our work force, allowing us serve more youth. Refinery Manager Jay Churchill and Public Affairs Manager Betsy Brien have volunteered their time and experience on our Board of Directors.
Built on more than 130 years of experience, Phillips 66 is a growing energy manufacturing and logistics company with high-performing Midstream, Chemicals, Refining, and Marketing and Specialties businesses. Headquartered in Houston, the company has 13,500 employees who are committed to operating excellence and safety.

Partner Spotlight - Pasha Stevedoring & Terminals

When we started our Corporate Giving Program in 2007 and began recognizing local businesses, several of our supporters signed up to become our first official partners. One of our longstanding patrons is Pasha Stevedoring & Terminals.

PST has provided our Club with generous funds, allowing us to serve as many youth as we do throughout the Los Angeles Harbor area. Their collaboration has helped us expand our enrichment programming and provide more educational opportunities to at-risk youth.

PST is a privately held, professional cargo-handling company that provides expert vessel loading and unloading services for the global maritime transportation industry in the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. A wholly owned subsidiary of The Pasha Group, PST is the third largest independent West Coast terminal operator, holding several long-term leases with the port.

Partner Spotlight - Valero

Valero is a longtime partner of our organization that has provided our Clubs with essential resources, generous funds and great volunteers. Their support has been fundamental in helping our organization provide successful enrichment programming to the number of youth whom we serve.

Valero employees, including our Board Vice President Steve Faichney, have undertaken volunteer tasks such as painting inside of the Wilmington Boys & Girls Club, installing shelves in rooms and planting trees. The support we receive from generous business partners like Valero has enabled us to sustain and expand the services we offer to harbor area youth.
